South African all-male group Hush SA wins Amazing Voices season 2

South African musical group Hush SA won the 2021 pan-African ‘Amazing Voices’ competition walking away with a grand prize of $100 000. The group was declared winners during the finale this past weekend through a voting system which was open to everyone on the continent.

They secured 5 golden voice wins for best performance throughout the second season.

The competition was broadcast on Mzansi Magic, Mzansi Wethu (South Africa) Africa Magic (Nigeria), Maisha Magic (Kenya) Zambezi Magic (Zimbabwe) and Akwaaba (Ghana).

The all-male group of six members formed as a brotherhood of childhood friends spanning years consists of Tsholofelo Ntuli, Phumulani Tshabalala, Sinethemba Magubane, Nicholas Malimba who all hail from Johannesburg.

The second season of the show which began in October 2020 attracted about 546 online entries from countries such as Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Zimbabwe and South Africa.

The winning group’s opposition, drawn from the five countries included in the competition, were like them, all unsigned groups looking to take their careers to a better level.

The group was chosen as one of the top 10 to attend a boot camp in Sun City and was mentored by South African gospel musician Khaya Mthethwa who helped them refine their vocals.

Speaking about the competition Nomsa Philiso director of Local Entertainment channels at M-Net said, “Mzansi Magic believes that music is an international language that crosses border and brings people of different nationalities together.

“As a broadcaster with an African footprint, we believe that bringing African talent to the fore and developing budding careers is a part of our reason of being.

“We are proud of our heritage and our unique ability to use our resources to build recognition for talented Africans.”
