While they might be controversy surrounding her relationship with her father, former Yizo Yizo star Dumisani Dlamini, it seems to not have affected Doja Cat’s musical output as she has shot to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 with the remix of her song, Say So.
The Nicki Minaj assisted song has risen to the top of the charts off its popularity on short video sharing app Tik Tok. Doja’s first Hot 100 chart topper capped a successful weekend for women.
This was the first time that a collaboration between two female rappers has topped the Hot 100 and the first time that two female rappers in lead roles have occupied the chart’s top two slots.
Meanwhile, Minaj broke the record for the longest wait for a Hot 100 No. 1 hit, and Beyonce became the first artist to score Top 10 hits in each of the last four decades (1990s, 2000s, 2010s and 2020s).
Doja’s personal life has come under the spotlight in recent weeks, after a clip in which she said she had never met her father surfaced on Twitter. Doja also said the two were barely in touch.
Her father, famous for playing Chester in Yizo Yizo, came under heavy scrutiny for failing to connect with his daughter.
In an interview on Metro FM, Dlamini claimed that her statements were untrue as he had tried to reach out to his estranged daughter. Telly Africa
