South African media personality and rapper Boity Thulo sparked controversy on social media after claiming she needs a man who can give her a girlfriend allowance of almost half a million rands.
The rapper was a guest on Mihlali Ndamase’s YouTube show and also revealed that at one point she was getting R50 000 (US$3270) as a girlfriend monthly allowance.
The two seemed to downplay R50k as if it was small change.
“Many moons ago I once had a girlfriend allowance. It was cute he used to give me R50k a month. I was happy but now your girl is expensive, yoy must give me R100k (US$6500). In life you must elevate, you must grow,” said Mihlali.
Mihlali then asked Boity if she had ever received a girlfriend allowance and how much was it.
The rapper said she never really had an allowance but would ask for money and get it.
She then said if she was to get an allowance she’d need at least R450 000 (US$ 29 000)
“Based on my needs my comfort levels, what I do for myself, I would be really comfortable with R450k, I don’t think that’s a lot. That would make a difference in my life. If you are going to give something it can’t be a piggy bank vibe, i already work hard,” said Boity.
Mihlali who could not believe what Boity was saying, asked her which man in South Africa would be able to give that much. Boity maintained that it was possible.
Both Boity and Mihlali’s followers were stunned by the episode as they took to twitter some claiming those two were lying just to get views.
“Even in America I doubt there’s many dudes who’d give their girlfriends $29k a month. Bayahlanya these 2,” commented one user @ModishaRichie.
Another user commented saying, That’s why she didn’t flinch with that R50K also you can see this is something that has been done before.”
