Controversial socialite Zodwa Wabantu caused quite a stir in this year’s edition of the Vodacom Durban July (VDJ) extravaganza by turning up at the event without a face mask.

Although the annual VDJ event was meant to be a virtual showcase, that didn’t stop many fashionistas such as Zodwa Wabantu from turning up to show off their sense of fashion and fabric.

Event organisers introduced a mask challenge in keeping with the ‘Butterflies’ theme and making sure that all physical participants adhered to lockdown regulations of wearing masks and maintain social distancing.

Zodwa Wabantu posted a video on Instagram pulling up at VDJ in a lavish sporty Ferrari wearing a slinky outfit flanked by her bodyguards and doctor.

Everyone in the Instagram video wore a mask, except for Zodwa.

This did not go very well with her followers who immediately quizzed her why she wasn’t wearing a mask, a legal requirement now under stage 3 lockdown.

Zodwa Wabantu’s response was both unapologetic and unrepentant: “I’m the boss. Can’t you see that?”

This not the first time the controversial socialite has posted footage on Instagram for her in public spaces not wearing a mask and not practicing social distancing regulations.

Efforts by her followers to conscientise Zodwa to adhere to lockdown regulations have so far been fruitless and falling on deaf ears.
