The public dispute between Ghanaian preacher Bishop Daniel Obinim and his estranged wife, gospel singer Florence Obinim, has taken another dramatic turn after the church leader urged her to stop speaking about their marriage during media appearances.
Speaking during a church service, the founder of the International God’s Way Church criticised Florence’s recent interview on Peace FM, where she discussed their troubled marriage, her willingness to stop using the “Obinim” surname if requested and a new Toyota RAV4 she recently received as a gift.
Obinim said his wife should decline to answer questions about their relationship whenever she appears on radio or television, arguing that continued public discussion only fuels tension between them. He maintained that interviews should focus on the purpose for which she was invited rather than their private family matters.
The latest exchange follows several weeks of increasingly public revelations about the couple’s relationship. Florence recently indicated that she would willingly remove the “Obinim” surname from her stage name if her husband requested it, saying a person’s identity and calling were more important than a name. She also said she would accept a divorce if Bishop Obinim decided to end their 22-year marriage rather than force the relationship to continue.
Earlier this month, Bishop Obinim disclosed that he had moved out of the family home into a mansion at Trasacco and insisted he had no intention of returning. He also said he wanted only his biological children and members of his church to oversee his funeral arrangements, excluding both his wife and extended family from making decisions about his burial.
Florence later responded calmly to those remarks, saying she respected her husband’s decision to express his feelings publicly and would leave the matter in God’s hands.
The couple’s marital difficulties have attracted widespread attention across Ghana, with each new interview and public statement generating intense debate on social media. While some observers believe both parties should resolve their differences privately, others have defended Florence’s decision to answer questions when invited to discuss her music and personal life.
The latest warning suggests there is little sign that the highly publicised dispute is nearing a resolution, with both Bishop Obinim and Florence continuing to make separate public appearances as interest in their relationship remains high.
