“People thought my son was on drugs” – Costa Titch family finally get closure

Latest

The family of Costa Titch has finally got closure over his mysterious passing last year after a post-mortem revealed that the South African rapper died from a heart condition and not from a drug overdose or poisoning as some had speculated.

The 28-year-old musician collapsed while performing at the Ultra Music Festival at the Expo Centre in Johannesburg on March 11.

In a statement, the late rapper’s family revealed that a heart condition, made worse by the high-octane lifestyle led by the rapper, had led to the seizure that claimed his life.

“Costantinos Tsobanoglou, commonly known as Costa Titch, was a beloved South African Musician and dancer. After unexpectedly collapsing in March, while performing at the Ultra Music Festival, Costa Titch passed away on the 11th of March 2023.

“Amidst speculations, our team and family have collaborated with pathologists to unveil the true cause of his passing. The post-mortem examination revealed significant strain on Costa’s heart, unbeknownst to him, compounded by enduring stress and fatigue.

“This culmination likely led to an irregular heartbeat, triggering the seizure that claimed his life. Costa Titch’s influence transcended boundaries, inspiring countless souls throughout his journey, leaving an indelible mark on the world of music.

“In this time of mourning, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to his devoted fans for their unwavering love and support. Let us continue to honor his legacy together,” the statement read.

In an interview, Titch’s mother, Lara Langeveld said she was happy that her son’s death could no longer be blamed on drug use.

“My priority was to find out what caused my son’s death. Society judges musicians by their appearance and people thought my son was on drugs. I know Costa hated drugs, we were very close,” she said.

“Costa loved children and would never have wanted them to think he was on drugs and I know that was the message he wanted to send out.”

Lara said she wanted answers as to why there was a delay in getting her son to hospital and what transpired in between.

“I’ve still got questions regarding [what happened] when he fell off the stage because he only died two hours afterwards and Milpark and Baragwanath are just around the corner.

“They put him in an ambulance and drove him from one media tent to the next media tent, took him out of the ambulance, and left him there to wait for a helicopter. Why not drive him straight to the hospital?”
