Kidnapped Zimbabwean businessman Evans Katumba found dead in SA

Date:

SOUTH AFRICA – A body that is thought to belong to kidnapped Zimbabwean businessman Evans Katumba has been found in Hammarsdale in South Africa, three weeks after the fuel trader was taken by unknown assailants.

Reports suggest that his body, which was in an advanced state of decomposition, was found with two gunshot wounds.

In a post on X, crime reporter Yusuf Abramjee said a body had been found after investigations by the police.

“Police in KZN have discovered a body believed to be that of missing Zimbabwean businessman who was kidnapped in Durban last month.

“It is believed that a substantial ransom was paid some days ago,” he wrote.

Police in South Africa opened investigations into the disappearance of the Durban based Zimbabwean businessman, after his kidnappers failed to release him despite the payment of R1,5 million ransom.

Katumba, who reportedly relocated to South Africa a decade ago, was reportedly kidnapped by AK47 wielding assailants at a nightspot that he had recently bought on 24 March.

According to Zimlive, after Katumba’s disappearance last month, his kidnappers had demanded a R2,5 million ransom.

His family and friends reportedly then put together 1,5 million, which they were supposed to drop just in Ballito, a coastal town near Durban. However, while the drop was made, the kidnappers did not release Katumba as promised. Nehanda Radio
