Moses Tembe, the father of slain rapper AKA’s fiancé Anele Tembe, has denied having a hand in the musician’s murder last year, saying that his family had been victims of a smear campaign by faceless people.
Anele, a budding chef, died three years ago while in the company of the late multi-award-winning musician who was subsequently assassinated in another tragic death, in February last year on Durban’s popular Florida Road.
Some have suggested that the Tembe family was responsible for the rapper’s death, as payback for their daughter’s passing.
In an interview with the SABC, Moses Tembe said that there was nothing that tied his family to the death of the rapper.
“It is unfortunate and, obviously, a painful experience when you hear people making those insinuations and those allegations,” said Tembe.
“People who make those allegations are faceless people, no one comes forward and says look, I’ve got this evidence and I’m basing my allegation on these facts,” he said.
Tembe also dismissed the notion that his daughter had been killed by the rapper.
“I object to anyone who suggests Kiernan killed our daughter. I’m saying we need to lead with evidence and the evidence will tell us exactly what happened,” averred Tembe.
However, Tembe said he believed that there had been foul-play around her death.
“From what we’ve heard as facts, that she was actually recognised by or found out by some other lady in the street and so on and on, you know, unattended to. One got a sense that there could be some foul play, but one was not there.”
“This matter is a subject of the inquest. I truly believe that the process must be respected. It would be amiss of me to get into the details of the inquest,” he adds.
