It’s been a very emotional month for South African rapper AKA real name Kiernan Forbes as he battles social media backlash and losing his fiancée Anele Tembe.
Last week the rapper decided to tell his side of the story in a ‘tell it all’ interview with broadcaster Thembekile Mrototo in his home in Johannesburg.
During the interview AKA revealed his side of the story and how his fiancée tragically lost her life. He also discussed his ‘tumultuous’ relationship with Anele and events leading up to her death.

The rapper admitted that he and his fiancée were having a difficult week in their relationship at the time and Anele had threatened to kill herself.
“We had been having a particularly difficult week in our relationship, lots of arguments and disagreements. We sat down and we spoke and we started disagreeing again and things got heated,” said AKA.
Asked if drugs were involved in their relationship, AKA said, “Have I tried drugs before? Yes, I have, I can say that without question. On the part of Anele, I am not going to speak on that.”
Moses Tembe, father to Anele responded to claims made by AKA during the interview that he was denied an opportunity to read his final message to Nellie before she was laid to rest.
Moses said everyone else spoke including AKA’s father and friends but AKA didn’t make that request.
“Kiernan never made a request nor was he ever denied an opportunity to read his message on the day of the funeral.
“We are a private family and it has been like that for decades. We would like to be given space to grieve. We’ve lost our daughter and we are hurting badly,” he said.
Anele died after she fell from the 10th floor of the Pepperclub Hotel in Cape Town. According to paramedics, a woman had allegedly jumped from the 10th floor of the hotel.
Police have opened an inquest docket to probe her death.
