Prince Kaybee reveals why he has no respect for rival Black Coffee

Date:

South African DJ and music producer Prince Kaybee has revealed why he has no respect for fellow DJ Black Coffee saying ‘respect has to be earned.’

Black Coffee and Prince Kaybee are some of the most celebrated DJs in South Africa. The two do not see eye to eye as they are known to have heated exchanges on social media.

The reason for their beef has always remained a mystery. In a video interview with Everything SA Music, Prince Kaybee made it clear that he does not respect Black Coffee at all.

“I’ve got this thing about me… apparently it’s being arrogant. I really need you to earn my respect from a very personal point.

“Respect and recognition are two different things. I can recognize you as the world’s number one DJ, but you can’t force me to respect you,” he said.

Kaybee said that while not taking anything away from how talented or successful Black Coffee is, to him he hasn’t done much to earn his respect which is a deeply personal thing he can’t just give out.

“There’s no reason for me to see him as a god- others do, but I also don’t think that Black Coffee has got a dope catalogue, from a creative perspective, as a producer and musician, I don’t think he has a great catalogue,” he added.

Last year the Charlotte hit-maker and Black Coffee had a heated war of words on twitter after Kaybee posted a cryptic tweet about ‘local celebrities’.

“The problem is that celebrities fall for the same trap all the time, ‘the urge to sound wise’.

“You watch a few YouTube video, you wanna sound intelligent. Carry on, you will meet your maker,” tweeted Kaybee.

Black Coffee got involved and asked Kaybee if he thought he was a celebrity to which Kaybee responded saying, “I see myself more as a servant of the people. If people wish to call me a celebrity or celebrate me it’s a blessing.

“I’m an artist and creator first. I don’t care much about the definitions of the industry because I know who and what I am.”
