More sponsorship cancellations for MacG as Studio88 drops him

It keeps getting worse for controversial South African radio personality MacG as some of the biggest companies are pulling out their sponsorship of his programme, ‘Podcast and Chill’.

MacG caused controversy when he made transphobic comments during an episode of his podcast and this was not taken well by his fans and listeners of the show.

All odds were against the radio presenter as most South African celebrities’ ganged up against him and demanded to have some of their featured episodes to be deleted. MacG did not show any remorse but attacked back at those who had guns out against him.

Old Mutual was the first biggest sponsor to pull out and the most recent one is clothing and footwear company Studio88. The company which is known for selling high quality footwear and clothes has stood firmly against MacG’s ‘harmful and offensive’ comments.

Studio88 group marketing manager Loren Lennox said they will be terminating their sponsorship of  MacG effective immediately.

According to Lennox, the brand offered them a four-episode sponsorship deal which they have now declared null and void.

The brand said this was because it stood firmly against the harmful and offensive comments and statements made in the now deleted episode that got MacG in trouble with the LGBTQ+ community and its allies.

However, regardless of all the negativity going around about MacG losing sponsorship, it has been reported that subscribers to his channel have increased by 20 000 in the past month ever since making the controversial comments.

Entertainment blogger Phil Mphela said, “MacG has scored new deals with other brands and his channel numbers are soaring. His channel is getting 600 average daily subs and got a 30 day boost of 19k new subs. His biggest day was Feb 9th when he earned over 4000 new subs.”
