Stoan Seate has confessed that his complicated relationship with Thandiswa Mazwai, with whom he has a child, has in the past made a Bongo Maffin reunion difficult to pull off, as their personal conflicts get in the group’s way.
Made up of Stoan, Mazwai, Jah Seed and Speedy, Bongo Maffin was one of the most popular groups in South Africa in the late 90s and early 2000s.
However, the group’s appearances together have been sporadic in the last few years, despite fans yearning for a reunion.
This year, Dru Hill hosted Bongo Maffin as one of their opening acts at the All White party, however, the group performed without lead singer Thandiswa, who was in the US on tour when the announcement was made
In an interview with Zimoja, Stoan said that the group no longer performed together regularly because they were always handling their own business separately.
“We have all been doing our own thing, apart from the group. I am running my businesses, DJing and focused on music and everyone else is doing their own thing,” he said.
He made it clear that the child he shares together with Mazwai had complicated matters.
“Our interpersonal relationships struggles because of having a child together (forced us to keep a distance from each other),” he said.
In 2022, Thandiswa revealed that she had stopped dating men after Stoan.
“I haven’t been with a man for like 15 years. I don’t miss them. I keep them a stone throw away,” said the singer.
“I did have other boyfriends after Stoan, definitely… I like boys… I just don’t care to have meaningful relationships with them. I think they’re good for fast love.”
