South African Kwaito legend Zola 7 the latest celeb death hoax victim
South African veteran musician and television personality Bonginkosi ‘Zola 7’ Dlamini has become the latest death hoax victim after rumors of his passing spread like wildfire over the weekend.
Twitter was awash with posts from several users alleging that the 47-year-old Kwaito star had passed away after suffering from health complications.
On Saturday users on the Blue Bird app were arguing as some were sending in their tributes and prayers for the Dlamini family while others claimed the star was alive and well.
“I’m personally reporting and blocking these unsubstantial tweets about Zola 7’s death. Respect the legend man! He’s NOT DEAD until we get a formal notice from his family or management,” tweeted Ndumiso.
Sources close to Zola have also denied the rumors but his management has not yet commented.
This comes after the star’s fans took to twitter earlier this month with concerns of his health saying he was in need of financial help as he was failing to foot his hospital bills.
These claims were shut by his management saying Zola was ‘perfectly fine at his home.’
In a statement his management said, “We honestly don’t know where these rumors started. He’s not in hospital, he is perfectly fine at his home.”
Zola’s personal assistant, Siki Kunene also rubbished reports that they had started a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for his medical bills.
“This is absolute rubbish. In fact, the management pays for his medical bills and send the medication to him,” she said.
Earlier this year Zola went public about his health woes. S
peaking during an episode of MacG’s Podcast and Chill Zola said, “I lost a lot of weight over the past year. I was extremely sick, I was home and I was shaking.”
“Everybody around me was scared I was going to die. I couldn’t eat well. I was eating Mageu, porridge and fish.”
The star emotionally revealed he was now relying on medication to get through the day.
“Nowadays I have to take medication twice a day to get by. I was very sick during that song [with Cassper] and I think we did about 25 cuts. I was fighting to look normal, but I wasn’t. I was extremely very sick during that video,” he said.
