According to a source that spoke to ZiMoja, the trail of the gunmen had gone cold.

“The case has been declared null, which means it has been classified as cold. This also means that the case will no longer be investigated until such time as new evidence comes to light,” the source said.

The case would be reopened when more evidence was availed, another source revealed.

“Every case that is investigated is given a time period and when the time expires, it means the case will be treated as cold; this is done so that the focus can be given to other cases that are ongoing.

“However, although not prevalent, should there be new evidence, then the case is reopened,” explained the source.

Gauteng police spokesperson, Captain Mavela Masondo, confirmed that the case has been classified as cold. “The case is being treated as cold, until such time new leads are found,” he said.

The mogul’s family has expressed its dismay at the fact that investigations seemed to have hit a dead end.

“We don’t know anything,” said family representative , Meaghan Sebela.

“We don’t even know how far things are with the case, and this is the first we hear about the case being cold. We just want to know who killed him. It’s surprising that a person of his stature can be killed, and the killers are not brought to book; this is disappointing,” she said.
