Burna Boy and Diamond Platnumz dominate MAMA nominees’ second list

Burna Boy shared the spotlight with Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz as they topped the second list of nominees in the MTV Africa Music Awards 2021 (MAMA) with three nominations each.

Other artistes topping the nominees list are Master KG, Nomcebo Zikode, Simi, Innoss’b and Wizkid.

The MAMA nomination lists are released in phases over several weeks leading to the main event that will take place on 20 February. This week six categories were announced.

The categories announced are Best Collaboration, Best Alternative, Best Fan Base award, Best International Act, Personality of the Year and Song of the Year award.

Some other categories such as the MAMA Legend Award, MAMA generation Change Award, will be announced at the award ceremony.

In the Best collaboration category Burna Boy was nominated twice for his song, “Monsters You Made’ with Chris Martin and for the Jerusalema remix with Master KG and Nomcebo Zikode.

Diamond Platnumz also made this list with his collaboration with Innoss’B for their Yope Remix.

Africa’s best artistes will battle it out in the highly contested, Song of the Year category which has 12 nominees in total. Nominees include artistes from South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Tanzania, and Sao Tome and Principe.

Another highly contested category is the Best Fan Base Awards category with a list of ten nominees from eight countries of the continent.

The MTV Africa Music Awards are set to take place in Kampala on 20 February 2021 and will be broadcast live on MTV Base and MTV Africa.
