SOUTH AFRICA - Fresh from her triumph at the Miss Universe Nigeria contest, Chidimma Adetshina has found herself in trouble with South African authorities after that country’s Department of Home Affairs announced that it could be seizing her passport along with that of her mother.
NIGERIA - Former Miss SA Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina says that she is not eager to return to South Africa because of the tribulations she faced there, instead choosing to continue exploring Nigeria where she has been welcomed with open arms.
The controversy around the participation of Chidimma Adetshina in this year’s edition of the Miss SA pageant continues to rage after South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs confirmed that they were now investigating her citizenship.
While the rules around citizenship are applicable to all participants, Adetshina seems to be the sole target of the public's ire. Previous white participants have never been questioned about their citizenship but a black African, the colonial mentality is embedded in black South African mind.
