The United States has sanctioned Rwanda's Gasabo Gold Refinery and its executives over allegations they helped traffic conflict minerals from eastern DR Congo.

The Democratic Republic of Congo has filed a new case against Rwanda at the International Court of Justice, accusing Kigali of violating international law during the long-running conflict in eastern Congo.

HARARE - A Rwandan national, Samuel Habimana, was brutally murdered in his home by armed robbers in Harare on Friday night. The incident has sent shockwaves through the Rwandan community, with many believing it was an assassination orchestrated by the regime of President Paul Kagame in Kigali.

The Committee to Protect Journalists on Wednesday expressed alarm at reports that Dieudonné Niyonsenga had been tortured in a Rwandan prison and called on authorities to unconditionally release the journalist, who is serving a seven-year sentence.

Rwanda's President Paul Kagame has said he would return money to the UK if no asylum seekers are sent to his country under his deal with the government. The UK has paid £240m to Rwanda, with a further £50m to come. So far, no asylum seekers have been sent to the country.

Rwanda's President Paul Kagame has travelled to neighbouring Uganda to take part in the birthday celebrations of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni's son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba. This trip to Uganda, Mr Kagame's first in four years, is being seen as a sign of a cooling of tensions between the two countries.
