Burundi president says gay people in his country “should be stoned”

Burundi's President Évariste Ndayishimiye has said that homosexuals in his country "should be stoned". Responding to a reporter's question, Mr Ndayishimiye, a fervent Catholic, said powerful nations "should keep" their aid if it comes with an obligation to give rights to homosexuals. "For me, I think that if we find these people in Burundi they should be taken to stadiums and be stoned, and doing so would not be a crime," he said.

Nigerian judge throws out case against 47 men facing homosexuality charge

A judge in a Nigerian court on Tuesday threw out a case against 47 men charged with public displays of affection with members of same sex, ending what had widely been seen as a test of the country’s laws banning homosexual relationships.

Online support for gay teacher

A teacher who came out as gay quit his job after receiving death threats, sparking an online petition supporting him which had received 1 500 signatures by Friday last week.
