Must read

South African rapper Da L.E.S has broken his silence after suffering a life-threatening stroke last year, revealing that he feels fortunate just to be alive.

The stroke, which occurred in July 2024, left the rapper fighting for his life and resulted in a month-long hospital stay. In an emotional video posted on his YouTube channel, Da L.E.S Network, he opened up for the first time about the ordeal and his ongoing recovery.

“I suffered a stroke. People thought I was going to die. I made it,” he said. “Right now, I just want to motivate people. People want to know what’s wrong with me—and I want to help, because sh*t is real. It can happen to anybody.”

He reflected on how quickly life can take a turn, saying:

“One minute you’re cool, you’re like me. The next minute, you’re experiencing the worst. My life has changed—but it’s not the end. This is bigger than me. I need to do this.”

The rapper also shared that the stroke had given him a new sense of purpose.

“When something like this happens, there’s nothing you can control. I’m lucky to be alive—real talk. I feel good. I’m happy I’m still here,” he said.

Explaining why he chose to share his story publicly, Da L.E.S said:

“The purpose of me filming this is to let you all into my life in a real way. Just to inspire.”
